75 years of MAWA means 75 years of future. Our founder, Martin Wagner, already had innovative ideas when he produced the first tensioning device for skirts and trousers in 1948. But not only then, but also today, we strive to constantly evolve.
Sustainability is a top priority for us at MAWA . We continually review our production processes with the goal of becoming climate-neutral by 2030. But that's not all; we're also constantly working on new, innovative materials for a better future. This is how our new ECO hanger, the MAWA C-Cycle, was created, made from organic material. Plant residues no longer relevant for food or animal feed are used to create a very special hanger that is in no way inferior to our other MAWA hangers in terms of functionality, quality, and design.
We also support ' CARBON CONNECT '* – the company that has set itself the goal of planting one million trees . That's why we're talking to Rebecca Koch, who leads the project for us – in addition to her responsibility for our successful online shop.
How did the project come about, dear Rebecca Koch?
An external developer pointed this out to us, sent me an email, and said: "That's a great fit for you!" Ms. Schenk immediately had 1,000 trees planted. And through our online shop**, we made it very easy for our customers to donate as well. We've already collected around 100,000 trees there in the last two and a half years. Anyone who ends up at MAWA already cares about sustainability; that applies to almost all European customers – it's important to the English too, but they still order from Amazon.
How important is the topic of sustainability for you personally?
I'm more of an eco-friendly person myself, and that's why it's important to me that we don't engage in greenwashing. MAWA is also committed to the 2030 Agenda, which aims to promote a dignified life worldwide and permanently preserve the natural resources. I also prefer high-quality products produced in Germany. This counteracts the throwaway mentality and conserves resources. 'Made in Germany' is also our USP.
What do you appreciate about MAWA?
I remember our neighbor in Pfaffenhofen, where I last lived since I was six, and she said: 'It's great that you work at MAWA, that's a decent job.' And the company cares about its employees. Many have been there for a long time. The company is traditional on the one hand, but very innovative on the other. I also like walking through the warehouse and smelling the sweet paste. That familiar scent also hangs in the office. I miss that a little because I now work from Sheffield, where my husband is from.
Michaela Schenk: Do you remember when you stood in my office and said, 'Ms. Schenk, unfortunately I can't work for MAWA anymore. I'm moving to Sheffield with my husband.' And I said, 'Then just do both.' (both laugh)
If MAWA were an animal, which one would it be?
For me, it would be a farm animal, but a beautiful one. For example, an elegant horse.
