Whether alone or with your partner, moving into your first apartment is exciting for most people. After all, it often marks the beginning of a new chapter in life, full of freedom, independence, and opportunities to express your own personality. "However, with the euphoria and the many design ideas, you usually quickly realize that your available budget isn't sufficient for your dream interior. While the dream reading chair, designer lamp, or extra chest of drawers aren't absolutely necessary, a bed, table, chairs, and a wardrobe are essential furnishings," says Michaela Schenk, owner and managing director of the clothes hanger manufacturer MAWA GmbH.

Storage space for a harmonious living experience

The first few days after a move are often chaotic: furniture needs to be assembled, boxes unpacked, and the contents put away. During this time, it's okay to still have some mess, and you can even live out of the box or bag. However, shelves, dressers, and wardrobes with drawers, compartments, and clothes rails provide convenient storage space that creates a harmonious and homely feeling. First apartments, in particular, often have only a few square meters. Therefore, it can be worthwhile to invest in a suitable wardrobe that can accommodate as many items of clothing, accessories, and possibly other things as possible. "High-quality furniture does come at a price, but it also lasts for many years and usually survives multiple moves. Other furniture, such as chairs, armchairs, and dressers, can easily be acquired at flea markets or from friends – and with a bit of luck and a good eye for design, the pieces you put together can create a stylish, harmonious, and individual living environment," says Schenk.

Wardrobe organization for more time in the morning

High-quality hangers help to make the most of the storage space in your closet. They should be the right shape and size for each garment to avoid dents or wrinkles. At the same time, sturdy hangers are essential. "In addition to wooden hangers, high-quality metal hangers also offer stability. Their slim design also creates more space in your closet. However, I recommend paying attention to the coating. Ideally, it should have an anti-slip effect so that even light tops or blouses stay on the hanger, but should not contain heavy metals or phthalate-based plasticizers," says the hanger expert. To save space and keep things organized, there are also accessory hangers and clips for hanging belts, scarves, hats, ties, or even shoes. "If you want to organize your closet even further, you can sort your clothes by color, type, or couple, for example. This saves you time every morning and you don't have to think about which pants go with which top," reports Schenk. Different hanger colors can also help keep things organized. If you share a wardrobe, it also makes sense to use different colors.
