1. How to find the right clothes hanger

Which clothes hanger shape is right for me?

When it comes to the shape of our clothes hangers, we look at two key points: the contour of the hanger under the hook and at the shoulder. Some of our hangers are designed to be slightly more angular under the hook—in what we call the collar shape—while others are round. As the name suggests, the collar shape is ideal for all garments with a collar, such as blouses, shirts, blazers, or jackets. This includes, for example, the Silhouette and Bodyform models. In contrast, the round shape of the Economic hanger is ideal for sweaters and tops with a round neckline.

At the shoulder area, some hangers, such as the Bodyform and also some wooden hangers, are reinforced, which is ideal for jackets, coats, and blazers.

With this distinction, you can easily determine which hanger shape suits your requirements.

When it comes to the question of wooden versus metal hangers, we recommend that customers rely entirely on their own taste. You should also consider the design of your wardrobe and your home, as well as the feel of the different materials.

Which clothes hanger for which garment?

For shirts and light tops (depending on the shape of the collar or neckline), we recommend the particularly slim Silhouette Light FT and the Economic Light PT. For slightly heavier garments or larger clothing sizes, the Silhouette F and Economic P are ideal.

Jackets, coats, and blazers sit optimally on the Bodyform or Prestige hanger. Alternatively, a wooden hanger such as the Business or Profi model is a good choice. The Profi hanger is also available with shoulder widening.

For trousers, there are various models that differ slightly in their application. With the MAWAmat and Panta clamp hangers, the trousers are clamped by the bottom hem, while the clip hanger clips them at the waistband. If you have less space under the closet rail, you can also fold the trousers and hang them over the KH trouser hanger.

For those who want to hang more than one garment on a single hanger, universal hangers with a crossbar and skirt hooks are ideal.

What is hanging height and why is it so important?

The hanging height refers to the distance between the closet rail and the hanger support. If this is not uniform, a "wave" is created in the closet, which can quickly look untidy.

MAWA clothes hangers are designed so that the shoulder height of all garments on the hangers is identical, creating a particularly harmonious look—even if you combine different hanger shapes.

Can I also use MAWA clothes hangers for wet laundry?

For wet laundry, we recommend our Silhouette Light FT drying hanger with stainless steel hooks. Wet blouses and shirts dry particularly quickly on these and look almost like they were freshly ironed afterwards.

Which clothes hanger width fits me?

We offer our clothes hangers in different widths, which are roughly based on common clothing sizes. A width of 25 or 30 cm is suitable for children. The Silhouette, Economic, and Bodyform models are also available in widths of 36 or 38 cm for small sizes, 40 or 42 cm for medium sizes, and 45 or 46 cm for large sizes.

For our wooden hangers, we recommend a width of 41 cm for smaller sizes from 34–42 and 45 cm for anything larger.

Do you wear different sizes depending on the garment and are unsure which width is perfect? Then why not measure a suitable hanger from shoulder to shoulder? If in doubt, we recommend the next larger width, as the rounded ends of our hangers do not leave any marks in the sleeve if they are only a few centimeters too wide.

How can MAWA clothes hangers help create order in the closet?

What should I look for when buying clothes hangers?

A good clothes hanger should match the shape and size of the garment for which it is used. At the same time, it should be stable, while a slim design can provide more space in the closet.

Another important point is the material from which the hangers are made. Instead of conventional plastic hangers, MAWA relies on metal, FSC®-certified wood, and selected bio-based materials. For wooden hangers, certification is very important. A metal hanger is often made from materials that can be easily recycled. However, one should pay attention to the coating that provides the non-slip effect: at MAWA, we avoid heavy metals and phthalate-containing plasticizers, because clothes hangers come into contact with your skin and your clothes every day.

Where does MAWA produce its clothes hangers?

In what way does MAWA take responsibility for me and my environment?

Our responsibility begins in production. We use biogas and green electricity to manufacture our clothes hangers and recycle 70% of the water required for electroplating. Should any hangers fail to meet our high standards, we separate the components of our metal hangers and recycle them.
