EXPERT INTERVIEW WITH SARAH RACKWITZ
Our interviewee today is Sarah Rackwitz, professional organizer. Sarah studied clothing technology and is therefore a true expert on textiles, from different qualities and processing techniques to garment care. After 17 years as a project manager in the automotive industry, she has turned her passion into her profession and trained as a professional organizer at the Center for Professional Organizers.
"Organization at home and in the wardrobe" sounds almost a bit like a dry topic. How do you perceive your clients' desire for more order?
Even if wardrobe organization sounds unspectacular at first, this is exactly what many of my clients want: more overview and structure. I often hear that they feel overwhelmed by too much clothing or a chaotic closet and keep reaching for the same items every morning. A well-organized wardrobe makes it easier to consciously choose favorite pieces and discover new combinations. The right organization not only creates more space but also a good feeling whenever you open your closet doors.
As an organization expert, you get to look into many wardrobes. Are there things that you notice time and again?
Yes, there are certain patterns that I encounter over and over! A common problem is that many people own too many clothes they don't wear – often for sentimental reasons or because they are waiting for the "right occasion." This leads to a lack of clarity, and they often end up just reaching for the same items. Wardrobes then become a source of frustration because the potential of the garments is not being utilized. A clear structure and awareness of possible combinations can help to use the wardrobe more efficiently and avoid daily frustration.
For everyone with little time: Do you have three tips to quickly whip your wardrobe into shape?
Declutter immediately: If a garment is damaged, has stains, or you simply don't like wearing it anymore, remove it right away. This creates space and you only keep what you truly value.
Group by category: Hang shirts, trousers, and dresses together so that you see everything at a glance and can make quick selections.
Use uniform organizers and hangers: Matching hangers and appropriate storage solutions create structure and a harmonious overall impression – your wardrobe immediately looks neater and tidier.

My dream wardrobe is a mix of functionality and style. I imagine an open closet where I can see everything at a glance and which is also visually appealing. Every item has its fixed place, and putting things away is just as easy as taking them out – without the clothes getting wrinkled. For me, a perfect setup is a combination of shelves, drawers, trouser pull-outs, and clothes rails that create order and clarity. I am already very satisfied with my own closet, but since I am constantly getting new inspiration through my job, I keep optimizing it.
