    Bereit für den Frühling?

Spring cleaning your wardrobe: 6 steps to a spring wardrobe

Since March 20, 2022, it's official: spring has arrived. The days are getting longer, and nature is awakening from its winter slumber, donning a vibrant array of colors. We, too, are banishing our heavy winter coats and thick wool sweaters from our wardrobes to make room for lighter clothing: colorful skirts, floral dresses and blouses, thinner shirts in fresh colors, and a light jacket instead of a heavy down coat. It's the perfect time to breathe new life into your wardrobe as well.

Many people not only swap their winter clothes for lighter, more colorful garments, but also take the opportunity to do a "spring cleaning" of their wardrobe. Items that weren't worn last season are sorted out, the organization of the closet is completely rethought, and sometimes the entire wardrobe is examined. In recent years, the term "capsule wardrobe" has become increasingly popular. Following the motto "less is more," the focus is on ensuring that all items in the wardrobe can be combined with each other . Often, garments in similar color tones are chosen, which can then be combined with accessories or statement pieces. How about Pantone's Color of the Year, "Very Peri," for example? Could this almost lilac shade perhaps form the basis of your new capsule wardrobe?

For those who don't want to completely overhaul their wardrobe, the advice is often to keep only their favorite pieces. Everyone has favorite items that make up only about 20 percent of their wardrobe but are worn 70 percent of the time . The effect: If you only have your favorite clothes in your closet, you may have less choice, but it makes getting dressed in the morning much easier. And the best part: You're always well-dressed and feel good.

But regardless of what you decide, the question remains: what's the best way to go about spring cleaning your wardrobe? How can I create a spring wardrobe in 6 steps?

    Step 1: Inventory

Following the Marie Kondo principle, your wardrobe should be completely emptied. The best way to do this is to spread all your clothes out on your bed to get a better overview of what you own and what you still need. It's helpful to sort the clothes by category: all blouses in one pile, all jeans, trousers, thin sweaters, skirts, dresses, etc.

    Step 2: Clean the wardrobe

Since the wardrobe is now empty, it's a good idea to wipe it out and remove dust and lint – this not only gets rid of all the "old baggage", but also creates the feeling of a clean start to spring.

    Step 3: Sorting

Next comes the most difficult task: identifying your favorite pieces and ruthlessly sorting out everything you haven't worn, or have worn very little, in the last season. Even those skinny jeans you haven't fit into for years have to go, even if you secretly always hoped you'd fit into them again someday. You really need to be honest with yourself here; only then will you end up with a tidy, organized wardrobe! Furthermore, all your clothes should be carefully inspected, and any discolored or damaged items should also be set aside.

Step 4: Sell, give away, or donate

In the spirit of sustainability, disposing of clothes should only be a last resort. Especially since there are so many alternatives. For example, items that aren't worn very often can be sold on eBay, at a flea market, or to a second-hand shop. Sometimes your best friend has always had her eye on that bright red blouse that you think is beautiful, but which you hardly ever wear because the color doesn't suit you at all. Furthermore, well-preserved clothing can also be donated. Finally, you can find clothing donation bins almost everywhere.

    Step 5: Categorize clothing

Now the remaining items go back into the wardrobe. You can either sort the wardrobe by category and arrange the clothes by color, or you can sort clothes by outfits – that is, items that you like to combine.

    Step 6: Organize the drawers

Drawers are a source of frustration for many people because their contents quickly become jumbled. To find a specific item of clothing, you often have to rummage through everything. If the drawers contain various clothing items like socks and underwear, boxes or dividers can be used. Clothing can also be rolled up. This allows you to store T-shirts side by side instead of stacking them on top of each other. This way, you have all your tops in view, and you don't have to take everything else out to get to your favorite item at the bottom.

Whether you opt for a "capsule wardrobe" or simply want to reorganize your wardrobe, a well-organized wardrobe makes getting dressed twice as fun.
