75 Years of MAWA – A Look Behind the Scenes
Many of you have already come to know and love MAWA hangers, especially our popular metal models, which have been manufactured in Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm in Bavaria since 1948. But have you ever wondered how our popular metal hangers are produced? And how they make their way into your closet?
Material Procurement
The first step is material selection and procurement. For our metal hangers, we use German steel. The non-slip coating on our metal hangers consists of phthalate-free PVC.
Cutting & Shaping
The steel blank is first cut to the required length, depending on the specific model. It is then brought into the correct shape. In our case, this is done by bending the steel using a specially designed machine. Our goal is to always have the right hanger for every garment and every clothing size. That is why there are many different shapes available: with or without collar, trouser hangers with the opening on different sides, hangers with shoulder extensions for better support, or extra-thin versions to save space.
Additional Elements
For models with rotating hooks or hangers with clips, the remaining parts—meaning the hooks or clips—are now attached. For our clothes hangers with clips, the clips themselves are also coated to prevent pressure marks. Both our clips and our 360° rotating hook, which is a hallmark of MAWA hangers, are mounted onto the hanger during this step.
Coating
In the next step, our hangers receive their special coating and obtain the typical MAWA non-slip effect. This is also when they get their specific color. After all, MAWA hangers come in many different shades so that you can choose exactly the color that best suits you and your closet. This step takes place in a so-called dipping oven. The hangers are submerged in hot paste and subsequently dried.
Quality Control
As soon as the hangers are dry, production is complete. The hangers are then carefully inspected to ensure that all of them meet our high quality standards. This includes checking for an even coating without any "drips" at the ends of the hangers, as well as a consistently uniform shape.
Packaging/Shipping
In the final step, the hangers are generally packed in units of 50 or 100 and labeled. For our German customers, we use cardboard packaging and paper filling material. Depending on the requirements of our business customers, other packaging solutions may be used.
Safely packed, our hangers then make their way to our customers all over the world. Smaller quantities within Germany or Europe are sent via parcel services, while larger shipments are packed on pallets and transported by a freight forwarder. For example, to Japan or China, the pallets are even loaded into containers and transported to our customers by sea.
Some of the hangers are transported by freight forwarder to our end-customer warehouse, where your orders are lovingly packed and shipped to you, our end customers. This is how the MAWA metal clothes hangers produced in Germany finally reach our customers. We provide a 10-year guarantee on our metal hangers.
