75 Years of MAWA – A Look Behind the Scenes

Many of you have already come to know and love MAWA hangers, especially the popular metal models, which have been manufactured in Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm, Bavaria, since 1948. But have you ever wondered how our popular metal hangers are produced? And how they get to your closet?

    Material procurement

The first step is material selection and procurement. Even during this step, we pay attention to the quality, sustainability, and environmental compatibility of the materials used. We use only German steel for our metal hangers. Our coating, which ensures that all garments always stay in place, is free from substances that are hazardous to health and harmful to the environment. For this reason, we avoid heavy metals, phthalate-containing plasticizers, and azo dyes in our coating.

    Cutting & shaping

The steel blank is first cut to the required length, depending on the model. It is then formed into the correct shape. In our case, this is done by bending the steel using a specially designed machine. Our goal is to always have the right hanger for every garment and every size. For this reason, we offer many different shapes, with and without collars, trouser hangers with openings on different sides, hangers with wider shoulders for better support, and even extra thin and space-saving hangers.

    Additional elements

For models with rotating hooks or hangers with clips, the remaining parts, i.e., the hooks or clips, are now attached. For our hangers with clips, these are also coated to prevent pressure marks. Both our clips and the 360° rotating hook, which is a hallmark of MAWA hangers, are attached to the hanger during this step.

    Coating

In the next step, our hangers receive their special coating, giving them the MAWA anti-slip effect. This also gives them their unique color. MAWA hangers are available in many different shades, so you can choose the one that best suits you and your wardrobe. This process takes place in a so-called immersion oven. There, the hangers are dipped into the hot paste and then dried.

    Quality control

Once the temples are dry, production is complete. The temples are then thoroughly inspected to ensure that all our temples meet our high quality standards. This includes a uniform coating with no "drip" at the temple ends and a consistently consistent shape.

    Packaging/Shipping

In the final step, the hangers are packed by hand, usually in batches of 50 or 100, and labeled. Sustainability is our top priority here, too. That's why we only use cardboard packaging and paper filling materials for our German customers. For a long time, some of our business customers insisted on using hangers wrapped in plastic film. Fortunately, we were able to convince them to use a special eco-film, and we were able to convert 98% of our packaging materials to a more sustainable alternative during this process.

Securely packaged, our hangers are then sent to our customers all over the world. Smaller quantities within Germany or Europe are shipped via parcel service, while larger quantities are packed on pallets and shipped via a freight forwarder. For destinations such as Japan or China, the pallets are even packed on containers, which are then transported to our customers by water.

Some of the hangers are transported by freight forwarder to our end-customer warehouse, where your orders are then lovingly packaged and shipped to you, our end customers. This is how our MAWA hangers ultimately find their way into your closet, providing you with a sustainable, everyday item made in Germany that will bring you years of joy.
