According to the WWF, around 13 million hectares of forest disappear each year due to deforestation. This translates to up to 170 million hectares of forest being lost by 2030, roughly equivalent to the combined area of Germany, France, Spain, and Portugal. This poses not only a local but, above all, a global problem.
Therefore, it is important to act now and let actions speak louder than words. For this reason, MAWA has committed itself to the United Nations' 2030 Agenda, whose 17 goals pursue sustainable development and positive objectives on an economic, social, and ecological level. "We see a good opportunity to make a further contribution through the 'Treellionaire' campaign," says Schenk. The goal of the Treellionaire project is to plant one million trees.
The project thus aligns with the goals of the 2030 Agenda in several respects. By reforesting threatened forests, it not only promotes measures to combat climate change, but also aims to preserve biodiversity and combat economic inequality. We chose the "Treellionaire" project as our charity project because it is a trustworthy partner that operates in line with our commitment to sustainability.
From now on, you have the opportunity to contribute to this project with every purchase in our online shop. At checkout, you'll have the option to plant a tree upon completing your order, thus supporting Trellionaire's three different projects in Asia, Africa, and Central America.
Our Managing Director, Michaela Schenk, has also arranged for 10 trees to be planted for each of our 90 MAWA employees, because on average, 10 trees can absorb one ton of CO₂.
